The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County urges the MIlwaukee County Board of Supervisors approval of the Milwaukee County Climate Action 2050 Plan at its upcoming meeting on Apr 24, 2025.

This comprehensive plan will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster the resilience of Milwaukee County buildings and operations. Growing out of the City-County Climate and Equity Task Force of 2019-22, the Plan Now Before You offers municipalities in Milwaukee County a model for addressing climate change across the County. Hopefully, County Board approval of the Climate Action 2050 Plan will lead to cooperation between Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee as the latter implements its 2023 Climate and Equity Plan.

Dear Fellow League members:

On Thursday, April 17 the League of Women Voters United States sent out a press release stating that, "Our country is in a constitutional crisis". These are strong words. The full text of the press release can be found here: Constitutional Crisis

The League further stated, "We the people must fight back". They announced a new initiative with details to be forthcoming as the month progresses. In the meantime, you can fight back by marching with the League of Women Voters Milwaukee County on May 1 in support of immigrants, due process and our constitution at Voces de la Frontera's annual "Day Without Immigrants & Workers" event.* Meet at the League's table. Dr. Emily Sterk joined the Milwaukee Turners as a Research and Advocacy Associate in September 2024. She has worked in various learning environments, including national and international universities, correctional facilities, youth detention centers, and adult education centers. As part of the “Confronting Mass Incarceration” team, Emily develops and contributes to the Milwaukee Turners’ expanding expertise in mass incarceration policy and creates research-informed programs for system-impacted individuals. Emily joined the League of Women Voters in the fall of 2024.
