The duties of the UMRR ILO representative are to:

Forward the UMRR ILO newsletters to the LWVMC Communications Team for dissemination to our members.
Attend the UMRR ILO Annual Meeting as the representative of LWVMC. This will be a 1-2 hour video meeting on the first Monday in June, usually around 5:30 p.m. The representative will vote on items like budget, officers, bylaws and program. This webpage shows what the UMRR ILO did at the 2025 UMRR ILO Annual Meeting.

If you would like to become more involved, that's wonderful. This post on the LWV UMRR blog describes the Action Committee and other opportunities.

The LWVMC Natural Resources Committee will review the nominations and recommend its choice for approval to the Board.

In addition, there is an opportunity to become a member of the UMRR ILO Board, with more responsibilities.

Civics Games Competition (community event)

If you know someone in high school or a teacher who is interested in civic education and government, this may be an opportunity for them.

The competition, which aims to promote civics education and encourage Wisconsin high school students to develop an interest in public service, will host play-off competitions virtually on April 8-9, 2026.

The top-performing teams will advance to the state finals on Friday, May 1, at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Members of the state championship-winning team will receive $2,000 scholarships to the Wisconsin college or university of their choice.

Following registration, participating teams will receive “The Framework of Your Wisconsin Government” textbook or link and access to several online resources to help them prepare for the competition(s).

A team may have any number of players who meet all eligibility requirements, but only up to four players can actively compete at any given time. Teams may compete with as few as one player. This year, schools are allowed to enter no more than two teams in the playoff competitions. A winning team will have a maximum of four players eligible for a scholarship.

Dr. Emily Sterk joined the Milwaukee Turners as a Research and Advocacy Associate in September 2024. She has worked in various learning environments, including national and international universities, correctional facilities, youth detention centers, and adult education centers. As part of the “Confronting Mass Incarceration” team, Emily develops and contributes to the Milwaukee Turners’ expanding expertise in mass incarceration policy and creates research-informed programs for system-impacted individuals. Emily joined the League of Women Voters in the fall of 2024.
