LWV Natural Resources Committee
The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County Natural Resources Committee focuses on the local natural resources issues in accord with the state and national League. The local committee studies, works on and participates in the following isssues and events:

- Wisconsin Conservation Congress County meeting
- Lake Michigan Interleague Organization .The Great Lakes provide drinking water to 33 million people and represent 20% of the fresh water on the planet. Only 1% of the water is replaced each year which makes guarding the Lakes a high priority. The Interleague Organization seeks federal funds to deal with water quality impairment, loss of wetlands, toxic pollution, invasive species, beach closings and sewerage overlfow.
- Great Lakes Water Resources Compact, known as the "Great Lakes Compact", has been adopted by Congress and signed into law by the President. The Compact protects the waters of the Great Lakes from being drawn down by states not bordering them. Along with the adoption of the law comes funding for clean up of pollution in hte lakes.

- Invasive Plant Species
- Water Quality and Metropolitan Milwaukee Sewage District (MMSD) . League member Dr. Jennifer Runquist is a member of the Citizen Advisory Committee which consults with the MMSD onimplementation of the regulatory obligations for 2010 and 2020. These regulations are part of the Regional Water Quality Initiative.
- Transportation
Both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate approved the Great Lakes Compact. Among other things it triples the autorized funding for cleaning up contaminted sediment. The President is expected to sign the bill. (9/26/08)
